

LossBart sat motionless in his favorite hunter-green embroidered oak chair watching with his pale blue eyes at the tall orange and yellow flames that were burning in the fireplace, eyes as cold as shards of ice as they rested on his narrow face. Outside, the sky remained gray as the chilling November rain continued to fall upon the soaked earth. The smell of burning wood filled the crisp air as puffs of smoke drifted from the chimneys of the small wooden cottages of the village. 5th AvenueThe rain was beginning to fall in sheets as Jack continued on down the slick damp sidewalk of 5th Ave at a comfortable pace, clearly in no hurry to get to his house that was just two blocks away. The rain had not bothered Jack one bit for he had spent hours playing in it when he was a kid and had grown quite fond of it, something that seemed so long ago to him. It seemed like only yesterday that he was at the local athletic club, climbing the ladder of one of the club's many Olympic-sized swimming pool preparing for his first dive of the meet, the crowd cheering loudly in the stands.
